Theme translation
Want to offer your store in another language? Here's how to translate your Materia theme quickly and easily.
Step-by-Step: Translate Your Theme
Step 1: Change your current published language
Go to your Shopify Admin.
Click Settings → Languages.
Under Published languages, click Change default.
Select the language you want to set as your store’s main language.
Step 2: Add or Edit Translations for Your Theme
Go to Online Store → Themes.
Find the Materia theme, then click ... → Edit default theme content.
Use the search bar or navigate through each section (e.g., Checkout, Product, Cart) to:
Add translations
Update existing text
Translate dynamic labels or headings
📝 Tip:
Shopify will automatically use the translated content if your customer views your store in that language.
You can use Shopify Markets to offer language switching based on customer location.
