A Collection Page in Shopify displays a list of products grouped by category (called a collection). It helps customers:

  • Browse items with a common theme (like "T-Shirts" or "Summer Sale")

  • Navigate your store faster

  • Discover more products they might want to buy

🧩 What Is a Collection Page?

It’s a page that automatically pulls and displays all products that belong to a specific collection. For example:

Collection Name
Products Shown

T-Shirts

All products tagged as T-Shirts

Summer Sale

All discounted products for the season

Skincare

All products in the “Skincare” category

Shopify automatically generates these pages when you create a collection.

Why Collection Pages Matter

  • They improve navigation and user experience

  • They boost SEO with keyword-rich URLs (e.g., /collections/skincare)

  • They make it easier to apply filters and sorting

  • You can custom design them using templates and sections

How to Access & Edit a Collection Page

Step-by-Step

  1. Go to Online Store > Themes

  2. Click Customize next to your active theme

  3. From the top dropdown, choose: Collections > Default Collection

Now you’re editing the layout of your collection pages.

🛠 What You Can Customize on the Collection Page

Most modern Shopify 2.0 themes let you edit:

Section
Description

Collection Image

Banner image shown at the top (optional)

Collection Title

Display or hide the collection’s name

Collection Description

Use rich text to describe the collection

Product Grid

Control layout (2, 3, 4 columns etc.)

Sorting Options

Enable sorting (e.g., price low to high)

Filters / Facets

Let users filter by size, color, brand, etc.

Sidebar Blocks

Show categories, brands, badges, or blog links

Custom Sections

Add sliders, banners, CTAs, upsell offers

Product Badges

Show sale tags, “new” labels, stock indicators

You can add or remove blocks like text, image, banner, or embed sections like countdown timers, cross-sells, or testimonials.

Best Practices

  • Always include a collection image for visual context

  • Keep collection descriptions short and persuasive

  • Use filters if you have more than 10–15 products

  • Show sorting options to improve usability

  • Add custom content blocks like:

    • Trust badges

    • Lifestyle photos

    • Countdown banners

    • Featured blog articles

Summary

The Shopify Collection Page:

  • Shows a list of products grouped by category

  • Can be fully customized using the Theme Editor

  • Improves navigation and shopping experience

  • Can include filtering, sorting, and rich content

  • Works great when paired with custom collection templates
